ECP Finishes Season with Strong Effort Against
Number One Army Prep, but Comes Up Short, 27-21

The East Coast Prep Firebirds (5-4) ended their season with a heartbreaking 27-21 defeat at the hands of Army Prep, who entered the game as the #1 prep team in the country. Delvon Randall (Pittsburgh, PA) showcased his many talents during the game as he returned a kickoff for a touchdown, threw a touchdown pass to Austin Leach (Sarasota, FL) and caught a touchdown pass from Tanner Kingsley (Beacon Falls, CT). Walter Fletcher (Ellicott City, MD) was the workhorse for the Firebirds as he carried the load on the ground throughout the evening. The defense was tough as they slowed down an explosive Army Prep rushing attack. Jordan Francklin (Queens, NY) and Christian Wagar (Neptune, NJ) made some huge plays both saving touchdowns and in run support, while the defense as a whole played its most physical game of the year. The special teams units were tremendous as Randall’s return, the excellent punting of Sean Young (St. Petersburg, FL), and a surprise onside kick by Matt Banchs (Leominster, MA) each provided the Firebirds with a major boost. The onside kick and subsequent recovery by Kyle Evans (Washington, DC) gave the Firebirds the ball back with three minutes remaining and a chance to take the lead. However, turnovers and penalties plagued the Firebirds the entire game, and questionable no-calls and missed opportunities thwarted East Coast Prep’s potential game-winning drive in the waning moments. This game showcased incredible performances by both sides and it was nearly the ideal ending to an extremely successful season for ECP against a rigorous schedule

The blocking of Logan Plantz (Frankfort, IL), Zehmier Brown (Worcester, MA), Hunter Sallila (Fitchburg, MA), Tyler McDonough (Troy, NY), and Justin Auer (Roswell, GA) opened up huge running lanes for the dynamic duo of Brad Jones (Freehold, NJ) and Raymonte Maynard (Richfield, MN) all day long. Jones scored two touchdowns on the ground and Maynard had several runs of 10+ yards.
