East Coast Prep rebounded Thursday night with a 41-0 win over Salve Regina in Newport, RI. The game was a total team effort giving the Firebirds a 3-1-1 record.
The defensive shutout was highlighted by 4 interceptions on the night.
Ja’son Prevard (St. Joe Academy, Atlantic City, NJ) led the secondary with three interceptions with one that was scored for a touchdown. Sean Riley (Aquinas Institute of Rochester, NY) had the other interception.
The ECP offense opened the scoring with a one yard quarterback sneak by Jay Kastanin (Needham, Needham, MA). Matt Whitney (North Kingston, North Kingston, RI) kicked the PAT.
Riley’s interception set up the second score with a 35 yard run by Robert Moreland (Westhampton Beach, East Moriches, NY). The PAT was kicked by Josh Bertrand (Fayetteville Manlius, Syracuse, NY).
The offense then took the next possession 85 yards on 14 plays with Chase Vaughn (Milton, Milton, MA) completing passes to Malcom Robinson (Shaker, Latham, NY) and David Pardo (East Hartford, Hartford, CT). Vaughn’s 5 yard pass to Matthew Chandler (Hagerty, Oviedo, FL) resulted in a touchdown giving ECP a 20-0 lead at the half.
The Firebirds’ offense started quickly in the second half with a 13 play 80 yard drive for a touchdown. Kastanin led the drive with passes to Elijah Smalls (Cedar Creek, Egg Harbor City, NJ), Drew Danson (King Phillip, Wrentham, MA), and a 6 yard touchdown pass to Marcus Rosemond (Abraham Lincoln, Brooklyn, NY). Bertrand kicked the PAT which gave ECP a 27-0 lead in the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, ECP marched 82 yards on 11 plays ending with an 8 yard pass from Kastanin to Chandler which resulted in a touchdown. Whitney kicked the PAT.
The Firebirds travel to Smithfield, RI, Sunday, October 9, for a 1:00 game against Bryant.
