The East Coast Prep Firebirds went on the road and defeated a tough St. Thomas More team 35-28.
The Firebirds offense started fast with quarterback Trey Dawson (Middlebury, CT) finding wide receiver Josh Nieves (Everett, MA) up the sideline for a touchdown on the first offensive play. This would be the first of two passing touchdowns in the half for Dawson who later found Angel Sanchez (Hendricken, RI) for 31 yards and a score to tie the game at 14-14.
The second half started even faster for the Firebirds, with Jalen Smith (Bronx, NY) taking the kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Smith would later put the nail in the coffin with a five-yard touchdown run. The score came with 29 seconds left which capped off a 7-play 60-yard drive to seal the 35-28 victory.
Nareece Wright (Montclair, NJ) ignited the Firebirds defense with 11 tackles. Jesus Penton (Lansdown, VA) and David Abolarinwa (New Bedford, MA) both came up with sacks in crucial moments of the game. AJ Standford (Warren County, GA) rushed for 69 yards as well as a touchdown for the Firebirds.
The win moves East Coast Preps record to 2-0. They will face Milford Academy this Saturday, October 31st for a heavyweight showdown. Kickoff is at 1 PM.
