Firebirds Start Fast and Finish Strong in Opener
The East Coast Prep Firebirds started their season in highlight fashion, taking the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. This would mark the first of five touchdowns for Jalen Smith (Bronx, NY) who ended the day with 301 all-purpose yards. The Firebirds scored touchdowns in all three phases while never giving up their lead on their way to a 49-14 road victory over Bridgton Academy.
Anthony Brown (Maitland, FL) led all carriers with 91 yards and a touchdown on six attempts. Trey Dawson (Kent, CT) added 112 yards in the air with a touchdown on 12 attempts. The defense was led by Nareece Wright (Montclair, NJ) who had nine tackles and an interception. Deonte Ferguson (Baltimore, MD) returned an interception for a touchdown, while Donovan Plummer (Oxon Hill, MD) and Elijah Lewis (Foxborough, MA) also added interceptions for the East Coast Prep secondary.
The Firebirds look to carry their momentum into their next contest when they travel to West Point to take on a strong Army Prep football team. The game is scheduled for October 16th at 7 pm.
